Gemeinsam Language Hub

A UX/UI case study that redesigns the course experience for visa applicants learning German. Gemeinsam Language Hub is a self-initiated UX/UI project crafted to solve real frustrations experienced by students applying for a German visa. The aim was to transform a disorganized, Telegram-based learning setup into a streamlined, user-friendly platform that enhances communication, simplifies sign-up, and boosts learning efficiency.

Context

Students preparing for German visa applications need to pass a B1-level German exam. The teacher was managing everything via Telegram, which led to constant delays, repeated questions, and a chaotic experience for both teacher and students. The mission was to redesign this process through a website that solves real communication and organizational pain points.

Overview

Using the Design Thinking process, I followed each phase from empathizing to prototyping. With interviews, 5xWhy, JTBD, and empathy maps, I explored the problem space. Tools like HMW, Brainwriting, and NABC helped generate and refine ideas. The result: A structured course website tailored to student and teacher needs, focused on usability, clarity, and efficiency.

The current system relied solely on Telegram, leading to:

  • Delays in responding to student inquiries
  • Repetitive communication for the teacher
  • Lack of access to structured information
  • Student anxiety due to unclear or late responses
  • Inefficient enrollment and onboarding
